On Dec. 18, a drunk driver crossed the yellow line and hit me. Does his insurance company have to pay me back for lost wages since I cannot work due to injuries. If so, is that money added to the settlement or do they pay me on a weekly bases like my work would? I need to know because I am a college student with bills to pay, but I have NO income right now because of this. If they don’t owe it to me now, is there a way they can help me pay my bills?

I received a check and release form from the at-fault driver’s insurance company. I want to accept the check, as I do not forsee future medical costs associated with the accident. HOWEVER, the wording/language of the release seems vague/too broad…it mentions a “full release” and mentions property damage. The vehicle is currently being repaired at a body shop and they have me in a rental car. If I sign this release, will they stop work on the vehicle and so forth? My only concern here is that I get my vehicle body repairs completed…I do not want to do anything to jeopardize that or release them from that particular part of the claim. Has anyone received offers like this before and signed them? What were the results? I may meet with an attorney and pay for 30 minutes of consultation time to have the document reviewed, just to be safe…and/or write on the release that I am not releasing them from the obligation to repair my vehicle. Any advice on this? Other recommendations?

End of July had bad car accident. Air bags deployed, car was totalled (insurance co. already paid property damage – other guy was at fault), but now there will be a medical settlement. The injuries were mostly large, nasty bruises and abrasions on arms and chest from air bags and seat belt. Went to the doctor, now pretty much healed, altho lot of pain for a time…couldn’t pick up a cup for instance. The adjuster is coming to see us (my grandaughter was injured, too), and I know he’s going to make an offer, but it will probably be small. I am retired, so no wage loss was incurred, but hey! It HURT! And I lost my car for over a month. I perform the function of “gramma-taxi” daily for my family and it was very stressfu not having a car plus dealing with the injuries. I don’t want a lot – after all – we all have to pay for insurance claims, but I don’t want to be mistreated either. And, I don’t want to contact our attorney, really. Just wanna deal with it fairly. Any suggestions?
